Where they stored/distilled the whale blubber before it was shipped out. Deception Island, Antarctic Peninsula
A closeup of the ruined buildings of the old whaling station on Deception Island, Antarctic Peninsula
What is left from an old whaling station. We are inside the volcanic ring island of Deception Island, Antarctic Peninsula. It is way too windy to get the zodiacs out and take a closer look.
It is now getting late in the evening, somewhere around 11PM, but the summer daylight makes for some great light on this iceberg.
Again of the same iceberg but from a different angle as our ship was passing it.
Gentoo Penguins on this colourful iceberg. Antarctica. This is an award winning image at the 2012 Tasmanian APPA (Australian Professional Photography Awards) and at the 2012 National APPA - both with a Silver with distinction award.
This is the same iceberg as the last image, but gives you a better idea of some of the size. Fantastic colours!
This picture give you some scale, these penguins are Gentoo's.
Beautiful blue coloured stripes on this berg. Antarctica
More interesting shapes, and colours on these bergs.
Wonderful stripes and colours on these icebergs. The purplish colour on the top of the left iceberg, I believe, is the reflection fom the sky & clouds.
Wonderful stripes and colours on this iceberg. A pity that the photo can't give you scale. The waves on the berg give you a clue though.
